When to Fuse Two Biometrics
نویسندگان
چکیده
Biometric fusion, acquisition and combination of multiple pieces of evidence of identity, can achieve higher accuracy of biometric recognition than using a single biometric. However, fusion increases the cost or throughput of the system since it requires acquisition and processing of more samples. We document a procedure for contingent fusion. That is, two biometrics are fused only if verification on the first presented biometric is rejected. We present results of this approach for both decision and score level fusion, and examine the combination of two different algorithms, two different modalities, and two different instances of a biometric. We conclude that contingent fusion results in comparable accuracy and lower cost as measured by processing time per sample than always fusing two pieces of evidence of the same identity.

Framework for biometric match score fusion using statistical and belief models
This chapter presents a framework for multi-biometric match score fusion when non-ideal conditions cause conflict in the results of different unimodal biometrics classifiers. The proposed framework uses belief function theory to effectively fuse the match scores and density estimation technique to compute the belief assignments. Fusion is performed using belief models such as Transferable Belie...
متن کاملBimodal Multi-Feature Fusion Based on Quaternion Fisher Discriminant Analysis
Because of its higher reliability, wider applicability and stronger security, multimodal biometrics has become a polar research direction of biometric recognition and attracts more and more research groups focusing on this area. Along with other fusion level of multimodal biometrics, feature level can reduce the redundant information to avoid calculation consumption, and simultaneously acquire ...
متن کاملFusion of Multiple Matchers for Fingerprint Verification
Automatic identity verification systems play an important role in many applications where the access to critical resources must be controlled (e.g. internet transactions, airport access and so on). Fingerprints have been used as biometrics to identity verification, and many techniques have been recently proposed for fingerprint identification. In this work, we propose a methodology to fuse the ...
متن کاملLearning to Fuse 3D+2D Based Face Recognition at Both Feature and Decision Levels
2D intensity images and 3D shape models are both useful for face recognition, but in different ways. While algorithms have long been developed using 2D or 3D data, recently has seen work on combining both into multi-modal face biometrics to achieve higher performance. However, the fusion of the two modalities has mostly been at the decision level, based on scores obtained from independent 2D an...
متن کاملPalmprint and Face Based Multimodal Recognition Using Pso Dependent Feature Level Fusion
Biometrics refers to a scientific discipline which involves automatic methods for recognizing people based on their physiological or behavioural characteristics. Biometric systems that use a single trait are called unimodal systems, whereas those that integrate two or more traits are referred to as multimodal biometric systems. A multimodal biometric system requires an integration scheme to fus...
